Getting Started

From TargetWiki

Targetware 2 has recently entered alpha testing! Come join everyone on the IRC channel to find out more about it.

Windows version:

http://metaserver.mk9sys.com/installers/Targetware_setup.exe

Mac version:

http://metaserver.mk9sys.com/installers/Targetware.dmg

Linux version:

http://metaserver.mk9sys.com/installers/targetware.tgz

Before you get started, be sure to go into Settings -> Login and pick a user name. Your password isn't checked right now.

Next you'll need to download the 'Area 51' test mod. 'Area 51' provides examples of how to do various things - we'll be adding to it as time goes on to introduce new concepts to modders.

Once you're playing (online or offline), don't forget to read the information in the Help window that appears by default (F6 to get it back if you've closed it and forgotten about it). And remember, Mt. Etna and Malta are nice, but sick's personal favourite is to sit on the surface of Io or Europa as Jupiter rises...

Modding information can be found in the Mod Developer Guide. Check back regularly, we update this area frequently as Lua API's and model formats mature.

Compatibility notes:

1) The Mac version requires 10.6. It was supposed to pop up a friendly error message if run on any earlier OS version, but there's a bug in the error message.

2) Targetware requires a processor that supports SSE2. For most people this won't be an issue - about the only processor still around that doesn't are old Socket-A Athlons (pre-Athlon 64, ie more than 7 years old). But if you happen to have such an Athlon, we're afraid you're out of luck.

3) Targetware also requires a graphics card that supports shaders. It takes a really old card or certain very limited on-board graphics chipsets to not support shaders, but if you happen to be stuck with such a setup, again, we're afraid you're out of luck.

For those AWESOME individuals who are already importing 3D models into tw2, be sure to keep checking the information on Importing Models which documents the tools and file formats you can edit.

Remember, we are in the alpha release stage, so there WILL be bugs. If you run into one, come tell us about it on the IRC channel. Have fun!
